27 May Celebrating Paramedic Services Recognition Day: Wrapping up a memorable Paramedic Services Week 2023
Today is the last day of Paramedic Services Week 2023, which has been all about Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) in paramedicine.
Each day of the week had a specific theme aimed at encouraging conversations about what inclusivity and cultural competence looks like within the profession.
“Paramedic services’ approach to diversity is simple. It’s about embracing everyone within the service and their communities,” OAPC President Peter F. Dundas says. “By cultivating a culture where all employees can bring their best selves to work, to deploying diversity initiatives to support all, I know we will continue to move forward with initiatives to foster a more equitable and diverse workplace.”
The week was made even more special with the introduction of the very first Ontario Medal for Paramedic Bravery, marked with a memorable ceremony held at Queen’s Park on May 24.
As we bring the week to a close, the OAPC invites you to join us in honouring our remarkable paramedics who make many sacrifices, often putting their own lives at risk, for the well-being of others. We encourage you to watch this brief video from Chief Dundas and share with your networks to express your gratitude and keep this important conversation going.
