Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: Reports to and works under the direction and supervision of the Health Senior Leadership Team. The Acting Manager/Chief shall assist the Health Senior Leadership Team in the performance of statutory, advisory and operational duties related to Six Nations Paramedic Services. The Acting Manager/Chief shall assist the Health Senior Leadership Team by overseeing the design, development, planning, coordination, implementation and managing of the Paramedic program of the Six Nations of the Grand River. The Acting Manager/Chief shall monitor and evaluate transportation and emergency medical care provided to ill or injured persons to, from and between medical treatment facilities in special equipped ambulance vehicles and to assist medical staff at receiving facility as required, as needed to maintain certification as a Paramedic Service Provider with the definition of the Paramedic Act and Regulations of Ontario and Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care Emergency Services Division within the policies and procedures established by Six Nations Elected Council.

Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: • Successful completion of the Advanced Emergency Medical Care Assistant (A/EMCA) exam • Eligible for certification with local base hospital as determined by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care • Minimum Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) status, preferably Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) • Demonstrated supervisory experience – minimum 2 years • Eligible for a Class F Driver’s License as required under Provincial Law and meets all requirements of Ambulance Act and Regulations • Comprehensive technical knowledge and skills in the emergency health services field; thorough knowledge of labor relations, emergency preparedness, project management, policy and program development, budget administration and program evaluation • Knowledge and understanding of pertinent Federal and Provincial legislation, regulations, standards, and guidelines, including but not limited to, the Ambulance Act, Mental Health Act, Coroners’ Act, Highway Traffic Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and the Human Rights Code • Ability to compose and present specialized reports, policies and procedures, budget justifications, equipment specializations, performance evaluations, conference papers and presentation materials • Leadership, negotiation, and human relations skills to manage, develop, motivate and support paramedic, supervisory and support staff in achieving objectives • Ensures effective community and public relations are maintained with respect to community members, allied agencies, government, local stakeholders and hospitals by addressing any problems in a timely and efficient manner • Participates in the recruitment and hiring of Paramedics and oversees college student program placements • Proven ability to make complex decisions both independently and collaboratively in a fiscally responsible manner • Excellent organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks/projects and change focus as required often without notice • Strong computer skills with knowledge of various information systems and software
