Job Description

Reporting to the Paramedic Service Commander, the Paramedic Supervisor is responsible for the Supervision of Hamilton Paramedic Service Paramedics and the operation of facilities and equipment. In addition, the Paramedic Supervsior educates and provides front line service as required by service demands. The Supervisor is expected to perform work in Operations, Training and/or Professional Development as required. This position involves a 24/7 rotational shift work schedule.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS: Qualifications to practice in the Province of Ontario as an Advanced Care Paramedic or as a Primary Care Paramedic would be considered as the minimum. This includes the possession of an 'F' Class Licence in good standing, maintain Base Hospital Certification and all applicable immunizations. Substantial experience in an emergency services supervisory position and knowledge normally acquired through the completion of a University degree in a Health Service discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Thorough working knowledge of all practices and procedures related to the effective operation of ambulance units including emergency planning, emergency resource deployment, continuous quality improvement processes. Working knowledge of the legislation, regulations and standards applicable to land ambulance services in Ontario. Demonstrated ability to efficiently handle daily labour relations. Demonstrated interpersonal, organizational, negotiation, report writing and presentation skills, including oral and written communication skills. Computer literacy in a Windows environment utilizing Microsoft Office XP software, including but not limited to a working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Powerpoint. Proven ability to exercise sound judgement in emergency situations. Demonstrated knowledge of the Health and Safety Act and applicable regulations as it relates to the position. *Note: This competition will include an interview and/or assessment as part of the selection process. *Note: The successful applicants will be required to attend one week of training.
