20 Dec MOL Safety Contact Centre
Under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Sections 51-53 the duty of reporting workplace incidents, including fatalities and critical injuries falls to the constructor and or employer at a workplace. The Ministry of Labour however is seeking the assistance of Emergency Services in reporting workplace accidents that they come across by virtue of being send to these emergencies. To assist, the MOL has created a dedicated toll-free number, 1-844-275-9033 for the exclusive use by Police Services, Fire Services and Emergency Medical/Paramedic Services. The purpose of this number is to give expedited priority to those calling and is not intended for the use of reporting internal service specific workplace accidents. The MOL recognizes that Emergency Services may report these incidents to the Ministry of Labour’s Health and Safety Contact Centre (Contact Centre) if they feel the workplace parties have not already done so or if Emergency Services are the lone responder to the scene of the accident. This request from the MOL is voluntarily and does not require mandatory notice.
