Celebrating Paramedic Services Recognition Day: Wrapping up a memorable Paramedic Services Week 2026

22 May Celebrating Paramedic Services Recognition Day: Wrapping up a memorable Paramedic Services Week 2026

Today is the last day of Paramedic Services Week 2026, which has been all about recognizing the many ways paramedics use their advanced expertise to care for, protect and strengthen the communities they serve.

Each day of the week had a specific theme aimed at demonstrating the profound impact paramedics have on the health and well-being of Ontarians, ensuring people receive the right care at the right time.

“The profession of paramedicine has evolved so much and into so many roles over more than five decades,” OAPC Past President Michael Sanderson says. “Paramedics responding to emergencies large and small, making a difference, being there for those who need them, demonstrating compassion and caring, supporting their communities, and helping to keep vulnerable elderly at home to improve quality of life, reduce health care burden, and mitigate health systems cost through community paramedic programs. And importantly, supporting each other as they deal with the tremendous stresses and pressures that come with their job. Their work makes a difference every day.”

As we bring the week to a close, the OAPC invites you to join us in honouring our remarkable paramedics who make many sacrifices, often putting their own lives at risk, for the well-being of others. We encourage you to watch this brief video from Chief Sanderson and share with your networks.
