Job Description

The RRDSSAB is seeking a CHIEF OF PARAMEDIC SERVICES on a permanent full-time basis to join our team in Fort Frances, ON. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of the RRDSSAB, the Chief of Paramedic Services is responsible for managing the daily operations and delivery of land ambulance services throughout the Rainy River District through effective planning, efficient use of human, physical and financial resources in compliance with the Ambulance Act and relevant regulations and legislation. The incumbent provides overall direction, leadership, emergency and capital planning, budgeting, equipment & asset management, monitors outcomes, develops improvement initiatives, and reviews, evaluates and develops policies and procedures. This position is responsible for the direct supervision of designated staff. Additional duties include availability to respond 24/7 on a rotating basis, as necessary, and will require regular travel throughout the District as well as intermittent travel outside the District.

Qualifications

Qualifications include: • Three year college diploma or three year degree in a related discipline and four (4) years work-related experience. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. • Must possess current certification status of an Advanced Emergency Medical Care Attendant (AEMCA), per qualifications established in The Ambulance Act of Ontario and a minimum of four (4) years work-related experience. • Must meet the Primary Care Paramedic qualifications outlined in the Ambulance Act of Ontario and Ontario Regulations 257/00, Part III, Qualifications for Employment, as amended. • Must hold Advanced Life Support (ALS) Certification, as required as a Primary Care Paramedic, and the ability to work under the Base Hospital Medical Director. • Knowledge and understanding of land ambulance processes, public sector management, internal controls, quality assurance/improvement, paramedic staffing/resources, health & safety best practices, and reporting requirements. • Knowledge and understanding of management, planning and evaluation of infrastructure and asset management, preventive maintenance activities, budgeting, procurement, policy development, evaluation/audits, and program & capital planning in compliance with relevant legislation. • Knowledge and understanding of legislation and regulations necessary to carry out the functions of the job, including but not limited to the Ambulance Act, Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act, etc. • Demonstrated experience in research, evaluation, project management and program planning skills. • Demonstrated experience with scheduling, record-keeping, administration, business practices, procurement, report writing and presentation skills. • Proficient computer skills and the ability to work within a computerized environment. • Demonstrated communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills to develop and maintain positive and effective working relationships. • Ability to work in a team-based setting and with multi-disciplinary and diverse individuals. • Strong project and time management skills with the ability to prioritize workload, as appropriate. • Ability to exercise a high level of independence, integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality. • Ability to travel throughout the Rainy River District and neighbouring Districts.
