Job Description

The RRDSSAB is seeking a DEPUTY CHIEF OF PARAMEDIC SERVICES on a permanent full-time basis to join our team in Fort Frances, ON. Reporting to the Chief of Paramedic Services, the Deputy Chief is responsible to oversee and supervise the daily operation of the Paramedic department ensuring compliance with relevant collective agreements, all policies and procedures, operational standards and legislation and required training. The position ensures compliance with all legislated standards such as ACR completion, Incident Reports, WSIB, Accident forms, Health & Safety, etc. The Deputy Chief will also assist in maintaining a quality assurance program including, but not limited to, internal audits of driving performance, overall patient care skills, appropriate eACR documentation, and fleet records. Rotational assignment as the on-call service Duty Manager is also required. This is a full-time Management position located in Fort Frances with coverage of the entire Rainy River District and will require extensive travel.

Qualifications will include: • Must possess certification as an Advanced Emergency Medical Care Attendant (AEMCA), per qualifications set out in The Ambulance Act and current certification as a Primary Care Paramedic. • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working as a Primary Care Paramedic. • Education and experience related to public sector management is preferred. • Must be competent within the meaning of The Ambulance Act, the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Land Ambulance legislation, patient-care and ambulance standards, as well as other legislation, regulations, policies and procedures applicable to Ontario Paramedic Services. • Must have thorough working knowledge of all practices and procedures related to the effective operation of an ambulance service. • Experience and/or education in the development, management and delivery of training programs. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal, analytical, problem solving and report writing abilities. • Ability to work independently and to prioritize a diversified workload and as a team member, and the ability to cope with workplace change and a fast-paced, high stress environment. • Proficiency with eACR, Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.), keyboarding, and relevant MoHLTC specific software. • Ability to exercise a high level of independence, integrity, diplomacy, professionalism, and confidentiality. • Possess a valid “Class F” Ontario driver’s license. • Possess documents suitable to permit entry into the United States of America. • Ability to travel extensively throughout the Rainy River District and neighbouring Districts.
