The Faculty Educator – Inter-professional Development and Professional Practice – Initial Education (Faculty Educator) at Ornge is tasked with the design, development, coordination, delivery, and evaluation of educational activities designed to develop and maintain the knowledge, skill attainment and professional development for front-line clinicians. They ensure consistent, high-quality education for both initial and ongoing professional development, while also handling mandated aspects of Maintenance of Certification, including, but not limited to quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives. Practice Specialists collaborate with the Clinical Affairs team and organizational stakeholders to deliver the department’s mandates. Primary duties are organized into three key areas: Initial Education, Continuing Professional Development, and Program/Corporate-wide Support. Reporting primarily to one of the Clinical Affairs Program Leads (with accountability to the Managers of Program Design and Academic Innovation, Clinical Education and Development, and Clinical Performance and Patient Safety) the Faculty Educator is primarily responsible for the design, development, coordination, delivery and evaluation of educational activities for Ornge paramedics. Additionally, the Faculty Educator will be responsible for the facilitation of Base Hospital and/or Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) mandated aspects of Maintenance of Certification (MOC), and for the completion of relevant quality assurance and quality improvement activities. MOC related activities might include clinician return to clinical practice supports, including remediation when required. QA and QI initiatives, including but not limited to patient chart/clinical case reviews, clinical metrics etc., assess the quality of patient care compared to clinical practice guidelines and medical directives, and strive to provide data driven insights to guide further education and program delivery objectives. The Faculty Educator’s role requires collaboration and coordination with the Program Leads, fellow Faculty Educators and with the broader Clinical Affairs team, including the Director, Associate Medical Officers, accountable managers, Service Operators, the MAC and internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of programs. In addition, Faculty Educators will be required to direct and support the work of Paramedic Practice Mentors (PPMs) and Clinical Practice Leads (CPLs), ensuring the consistent delivery of high quality education to meet program mandates. The Faculty Educator will advise their Program Lead or Manager on portfolio requirements. Faculty Educators will be organized and provided targeted portfolio work within one of three key areas; Initial Education (Aeromedical and Critical Care programs) – reporting to Program Lead, Initial Education Programs. Continuing Professional Development (Continuing Medical Education, Operational training, and Paramedic Remediation and Re-integration – reporting to Program Lead, CPD. Quality Improvement (Paramedic/Clinician Practice, Clinical Quality Reviews) – Reporting to the Program Lead, Quality Improvement. Program/Corporate-wide Support (LMS, Onboarding, Recruitment/Selection, Return to Clinical Practice) – reporting to Manager, Program Design and Academic Innovation, accountable to other department Managers.
