This role provides the effective assessment, treatment and transportation of patients via ambulance to a hospital emergency department throughout the City of Guelph and Wellington County. The Paramedic is required to act in the capacity of either driver of the ambulance or attendant to the patient. Due to an immediate need, first consideration will be given to candidates currently certified with one of the eight base hospitals. Completion of a two (2) year Community College program in Emergency Health Care/ Paramedicine (A-EMCA); Preference given to those currently certified as a Primary or Advanced Care Paramedic in Ontario; Meets all Ambulance Act and Ontario Regulation 257 requirements for employment; Valid CPR, Restricted Radio Operator’s license and all qualifications that meet legislated requirements; Proven knowledge of basic and advanced life support patient care standards, procedures, techniques and specifications related to Ambulance services, Base Hospital, equipment supplies, use of medications, vehicles and base stations; Working knowledge of the Ambulance Act and other related legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines; Class F driver’s license with clear driver’s abstract and clear Vulnerable sector and Criminal Record Check report; Ability to physically provide patient care and transport (with proof of physical abilities testing); Preference given to candidates certified with a base hospital program in Ontario: Central East Prehospital Care Program, Hamilton Health Sciences Centre for Paramedic Education and Research, Health Sciences North Centre for Prehospital Care, Northwest Region Base Hospital Program, Ornge, Regional Paramedic Program for Eastern Ontario, Southwest Ontario Regional Base Hospital Program, Sunnybrook Centre for Prehospital Medicine
