POSITION SUMMARY Reporting to an EMS District Chief, you will perform primary emergency medical care and controlled acts under the direction of the Base Hospital Medical Director; ensure the safe and timely land transportation of ill or injured persons, including cross-border transfers; operate emergency vehicles safely in all weather conditions; maintain contact with and comply with direction from the Central Ambulance Communications Centre; liaise with other agencies to collect and provide relevant information; maintain ambulances, equipment, supplies, controlled drugs and stations in a state of readiness; complete required documentation; participate in mandatory training; function in a First Response capacity when and if required. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Successful completion of the OPPAT physical fitness assessment Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Search Satisfactory Driver’s Abstract Compliance with current communicable disease standards, as outlined by MOHLTC Successful completion of Base Hospital Symptom Relief and Defibrillation certification Submission of Smart Health QR Code (enhanced vaccine certificate) for verification WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR: Meets all qualifications to work as a Primary Care Paramedic in Ontario, as set out in the Ontario Ambulance Act and its Regulations, and as established by the County from time to time, including: Graduate of an approved College Paramedic Program OR Paramedic Students expected to graduate in 2022. Valid CPR certification - certified within the last 12 months. A-EMCA certificate OR Paramedic Students scheduled to write their A-EMCA examination in 2022. Valid Class F Driver’s License; good driving record and good driving skills. Able to identify patient treatment needs and provide appropriate care. Physically capable of lifting and carrying heavy patients and equipment. Valid documentation and suitability for allowable entry into the US for cross-border transfers. Available to comply with availability requirements and work all shifts, all stations (including remote overnight assignments at Pelee Island), as scheduled or called in, in a 24 hour per day, seven day per week operation (days, nights, weekends and holidays). Good interpersonal skills; able to communicate effectively; to work closely with the entire healthcare team. Good teamwork skills, ability to work closely with a partner for extended periods of time. Able to work in stressful situations and exercise sound judgment in emergency situations; critical thinker. Good data entry skills. Candidates will be required to participate in a job-related physical fitness test.
