Job Description

Reporting to the Chiefs of Paramedic Services, the Shift Superintendent is responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective day-to-day operations throughout the geographic coverage area of Bruce County Paramedic Services. The Superintendents rove throughout the County providing management direction to all front-line staff, ensuring delivery of quality emergency pre-hospital care and non-emergency medical transportation. Superintendents will also, on occasion, perform the duties of a Primary Care Paramedic when first on scene, or as required. The schedule is a two week rotation of twelve hour day and night shifts. This is a full-time position, reporting out of the Walkerton Station.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills · Two year post-secondary diploma in Paramedicine · Current certification as an Advanced Emergency Medical Care Assistant (AEMCA) · Current, clean Class “F” driver’s license · Four years of previous experience in the Ontario Paramedic/EMS system · Two years of previous supervisory or management experience · Ability to delegate, set expectations, and monitor progress of all direct reports · Ability to identify measures of performance and actions needed to improve or correct performance · A well defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills · Demonstrated time management skills · Effective leadership skills, with a strong focus on mentoring and motivation of employees · Experience with coaching and employee development · Strong formal and informal leadership skills
