We are currently seeking to hire a Superintendent of Operations, located in Sioux Lookout, Ontario, to join our Land Ambulance Administration team (position will also require travel and oversight of the EMS Land Ambulance Bases in the East Region of the Kenora District on an as- needed basis). Reporting to the Deputy Chief of Operations, the Superintendent of Operations is responsible for ensuring operational readiness of the EMS system by direct interaction, monitoring, evaluation and supervision of Primary Care Paramedic (“PCP”) Coordinators and Paramedics. Key responsibilities include: • Managing the scheduling of Paramedics in collaboration with the EMS Scheduler. • Engage in stakeholder relations such as dealing with employee/employer committees, local safety coalitions, the Ministry of Health (MOH), the Ministry of Long-Term Care (MOLTC), Central Ambulance Communications Centre (CACC), local hospitals, public relations initiatives and other relevant agencies. • Demonstrate commitment to health and safety by adopting safe work practices, reporting unsafe conditions immediately, and attending all relevant in-service training regarding occupational health and safety. • Assisting with the maintenance of a Human Resource Inventory to ensure all required certificates, licenses, and qualifications for employment are valid. • Assisting with training of staff to continually improve patient care in accordance with applicable standards, legislation and regulations. • Investigate accidents, workplace incidents, public complaints, etc. and provide a preliminary written investigation report. • Monitors and evaluates PCP Coordinators and Paramedic skills and performance. Take necessary corrective or disciplinary action when required. • Participating in strategic planning for the KDSB and contribute to budget planning and development.
Successful candidates will have: • Knowledge of land ambulance legislation, regulations and current practices pertaining to land ambulance services and personnel. • Ability to interpret and apply the terms and conditions of a collective agreement. • Demonstrated knowledge of current medical and emergency response procedures. This includes ambulance equipment specifications, medical training standards and requirements pertaining to ambulance services and emergency dispatch systems and protocols. • Maintain any certifications/qualifications as required by the employer. • Must be proficient in the use of computers and current related software. • Excellent organizational and communication skills. Qualifications will include: • Holds the qualification of an Advanced Emergency Medical Care Attendant (A-EMCA) and has a minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a Primary Care Paramedic. • Maintain qualifications as a Primary Care Paramedic as defined by the Ambulance Act. • Demonstrated supervisory, management and leadership skills. Management education or experience an asset. • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to the public, staff and associated health care providers. • Ability to identify and resolve areas of conflict with tact and diplomacy.
