Job Description

Reporting to the Commander, is responsible for supervising the scheduling and deployment of Paramedic Ambulance and Paramedic Response Units including developing, operating and maintaining daily Paramedic Operations reporting and compliance; and ensuring the collection of data and preparation of reports related to contractual compliance and performance. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES • Responsible for the monitoring of overall Paramedic system status processes that report day-to-day deployment of ambulance resources, including unit hour activity (UHA), meal and rest break periods, response time performance, paramedic workloads etc. • Monitors the general status of the fleet to ensure a proper level of deployment for emergency capability is maintained i.e. emergency coverage / deployment strategy. • In cooperation with Superintendent/Supervisor(s), Paramedic Operations, ensures daily implementation of specific operational procedures and processes i.e., ACP & ERV optimal crew configuration etc. • Responsible for the supervision of daily, weekly and monthly scheduling of all operational staff. • Conducts performance reviews, carries out attendance management and deals with labour relations matters and takes disciplinary action when required. • Develops and recommends strategies to the Commander, regarding operational staffing needs for short and long term scheduling performance objectives, processes and procedures. • Assists the Commander in developing annual business/work plans and in developing service plans and staffing proposals. • Provides input into budget and business plan development, policies and procedures.

• Successful completion of a Community College Diploma in Business Administration, Health Sciences or related field or approved equivalent combination of education and experience. • Minimum three (3) years of progressive experience in a Paramedic Services environment including program administration/delivery, business planning/budget, human resources management in a unionized environment, project management and program development, and supervisory or leadership experience • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant Regulations, Acts, By-Laws, Standards, guidelines and procedures pertaining to ambulance operations. • Demonstrated knowledge of ambulance service operation and related fleet, technical support and material management issues. • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the principles and practises of performance-based EMS systems and dispatch operations. • All York Region Employees are required to be fully vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine series, approved by Health Canada or the World Health Organization, as a condition of hire.
